How Surrendering to His Will Changed My Life

I've always been a church girl. ⛪️
As a child, I was a member of Butler's United Methodist Church in the Bronx, New York. Every week I attended Sunday school and then 'big' church with my mom, dad, and siblings.
I was very fond of the old hymnals we sang. I sang the first verse and the chorus then read all of the other verses while everyone else sang. One song that resonated deeply with me was I Surrender All.
Quite frankly, I'm not sure why at the age of 9, 10, or 11 -- I felt the power held within those verses. BUT I did!! I remember wondering why it penetrated my curiosity so much. At the time I did not have the answer but I think I can answer it now.
Trusting the Process
One and a half years ago, I surrendered it all.
When I tell you that this was not an easy decision, it was not!!
Let me first clarify what I mean by surrendering. When I say I surrender, I am saying that I truly yielded myself to the will and authority of God by relinquishing my desires, plans, and control to embrace God's perfect purpose for my life. This may seem like a simple act, but for me, in this season of life that I was living in, it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
Let me open the door so you can peak into my life a lil bit. This was the season I was living in…
I live in Texas with my love - my hubby - Dwayne. We'll be celebrating 20 years of marriage this year!! What a blessing! 🙌🏾
We have two children, Layla and Josiah, who are the BEST parts of us. 🥰
I am surrounded by a loving family that pours into our dreams and are FULLY PRESENT. 💪🏽
I have a great circle of friends who genuinely have my back - no fake friendships over here! Ya heard me! 😉
I graduated with not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 degrees. 👏🏽 They call me Dr. Meesha for a reason.
In the last 23 years, I've worked for companies that invest the majority of their efforts supporting, serving, and uplifting communities. 👊🏽
Faith In Action
Well why surrender? And why now?
Surrendering looks different for everyone but for me, in the literal sense, it looked like me walking away from my stable job to pursue a life of obedience. In my heart, I prayed and desired a deeper relationship with God. In that, I realized that my priorities were misaligned. I truly dedicated most of my life to “doing” the things rather than prioritizing my relationship with God. Let’s be honest, I read my daily devotion every day and gave him my first 10 minutes but that’s all HE got. The BIG God that I wanted to sustain me in all of my endeavors and in my life. I committed hard to my first ten minutes but then focused all of my attention to what I deemed important.
I had an unsettled feeling in my heart and realized I was distracted by the busyness life gave me.
I lost my way.
My Truth in Action: I implemented faith over control.
Any type A-people in the room that like to have things look a certain way, planned out a certain way, and to map all the ideas out into a beautiful plan.
Yes.
Well that's me too.
The truth is I shifted. I decided to step out in faith, give up all of my busyness, and start my business, Vision Mapping. I knew that if I could take the time to realign that I would see the fruits of this prosperous life I knew God had for me. AND I did!!
It did not come easy.
It came with LOTS of questions.
It came with some deep introspective work.
Ya girl had a different swag about her. 😉

Where do you go from here?
I know some of you may be feeling this unsettling that you wrestle with throughout the day or late in the wee hours of the night. You may even wake up out of your sleep thinking deeply or fail to have a restful nights sleep.
You may be wondering:
Well, what should I do?
How can I shift?
How should I pivot?
Should I walk away?
Implement these 3 steps to surrender towards your purpose.
Dedicate 10 minutes a day to pray and journal your dreams.
Find scripture that affirms your TRUE desires.
As a reflection, write down celebrations that affirm how God blessed you today.
This one was BIG for me. I have a journal dedicated strictly for seeing God's footprint (his hand) on my life.
You may not be able to do what I did and walk away from your career.
I am grateful that I was blessed with the opportunity to start Vision Mapping.
I can tell you that I did it scared and have a deeper dependence on trusting that God will show me the next step. He has and I am forever grateful. 🙌🏾
